Hong Kong, July 3, 2026 — Mr. James Chau, President of the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) and World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador, was invited by The University of Hong Kong Summer Institute to speak at a seminar for teaching fellows preparing to participate in its Cross Cultural Summer Enrichment (CCSE) program.
The seminar brought together 21 participants, including 13 overseas Fung Scholars sponsored by the Victor and William Fung Foundation — representing universities in the UK, Canada, and beyond — and 8 Hong Kong-based fellows.
Mr. Chau’s session, titled “Understanding U.S.- China Relations, and Hong Kong’s Role as a Global Crossroads,” offered a compelling analysis of Hong Kong’s unique position as a bridge connecting East and West. He also examined the evolving yet enduring role and value of Hong Kong, within the broader context of China’s shifting economic landscape. Following his remarks, participants discussed these themes, while exploring how cross-cultural understanding and people-to-people exchanges can contribute to a more stable and cooperative international environment.
The University of Hong Kong Summer Institute is an annual flagship program that brings together HKU and international scholars to mentor and teach secondary school students while fostering cross-cultural learning and global dialogue.
