CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK IN HONG KONG
- Hong Kong has been “overwhelmed” by the fifth wave of the Covid-19 outbreak as the city reported more than 1,500 new infections on Monday. The government ruled out a “lockdown” for the moment but will get support from mainland China to fight the disease.
RUSSIA DENOUNCED U.S. ULTIMATUM AS ‘PEAK HYSTERIA’
- U.S. President Joe Biden had a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin again on Friday, warning the Kremlin of “severe costs” in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, even though Russia has repeatedly denied its intention to do so. Yury Ushakov, Putin’s top aid in foreign policy, said the U.S. “hysteria” has “reached its peak.”
U.S. FREEZES ASSETS OF AFGHAN CENTRAL BANK
- U.S. President Joe Biden has ordered to block all the $7 billion property of Da Afghanistan Bank in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The administration proposed to divide the money by half to compensate the Sept. 11-attack victims and fund humanitarian reliefs in Afghanistan. Many Afghans, including the country’s former president Hamid Karzai, are angry about the executive order.
