We share the judgment of Presidents Barack Obama and Xi Jinping about the US-China relationship’s importance to the world, and we applaud the vision and success of the June 2013 Sunnylands summit between the two presidents. That is why we have joined together to offer support and specific suggestions for building on the success of the summit. Specifically, we write to support the idea of building a “new type of great power relationship” by working together to address looming, long-term global challenges that are beyond the capacity of any nation to solve alone but could imperil the peace and prosperity of all nations if our two countries fail to cooperate.
