  • U.S. State Department Launches “China House” | The U.S. State Department has launched its “China House” unit, which is a team of experts that will help navigate U.S. policymaking towards China. The official name of the unit, which was devised by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, is the Office of China Coordination. The "China House" aims to create an “open, inclusive international system.” Chinese media has criticized the unit for promoting competition over cooperation between the U.S. and China.
  • Delisting Threats For China Stocks Eased | As the U.S. regulators gained sufficient access to their audits for the first time, the threat of delisting around 200 Chinese companies on the New York exchange was removed. The statement from the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board brings relief to Chinese companies, including Alibaba, facing delisting as the two countries have been at a standoff over the audit issue for a long time. Observers say that while the two countries clash in many areas, they can still work together on some issues.
  • Australian Foreign Minister Visits China | Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing this week to mend diplomatic ties between the two countries. Discussions included lifting trade sanctions imposed by China as well as consular access to two Australians that are being detained in China. The trade relationship between China and Australia is one of the most important in the region, and the last round of talks took place in 2018.
