  • China Meets with EU and Ukrainian Minister | China and the EU on April 1st held a virtual summit, where China tried to emphasize the common ground with the EU while Brussels put heavy weight on the Ukraine issue. On April 4th, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ukrainian Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and while no commitments were made, experts hope this will lead to a direct conversation between President Xi and Ukraine’s President Zelensky.
  • AUKUS to develop Hypersonic Weapons | The U.S., UK, and Australia (AUKUS) announced plans to cooperate in advanced weapons to counter the growing military capability of China. Beijing responds that AUKUS's cooperation in missiles and nuclear-powered submarines raises the risk of nuclear proliferation and fuels the arms race in the Asia-Pacific.
  • The U.S. Approves $95 Million Arms Sales to Taiwan | The U.S. State Department approves its third arms sale to Taiwan since President Biden took office. The $95 million package includes training and maintenance of the Patriot Air Defense Systems and related equipment. Beijing strongly denounces the arms sale, saying it severely damages China-US relations and the stability across the Taiwan Strait, and urges the U.S. to end arms sales to Taiwan as well as cutting the military ties with Taiwan.
