Chinese and American cultures are fundamentally different, and these cultural differences have undoubtedly contributed to the fraught bilateral relationship.
This talk discusses these differences and their implications for the two countries’ domestic politics and foreign policy. More specifically, this talk will focus on the two countries’ different attitudes and norms about the state, the relationship between an individual and the state, authority, social interactions, and gender relations. Awareness of these cultural differences will surely help both sides to reduce misunderstandings and to better appreciate each other’s policies.
