Overview

High-Level Dialogues are aimed at building trust through ongoing dialogues and open interactions. China Forums gather leaders from the military, government, economy and other key sectors to discuss the issues impacting this bilateral relationship with the broader American academic community. Since its establishment, CUSEF has created open spaces for discussion between officials of the highest order from both the U.S. and China. Through a series of programs that gather leaders from various areas of both nations’ governments, we provide insights into the China-U.S. relationship at the highest level.

Sanya Initiative

2009 - 2017

The EastWest Institute, in partnership with the China Association for International Friendly Contact and CUSEF, convened a smaller-group meeting for the 8th U.S. – China Sanya Initiative, sponsored by the China-United States Exchange Foundation, in December 2017 in Beijing, China. Retired American and Chinese senior flag officers met and discussed in great depth critical issues of mutual concern and interest impacting the U.S. – China military-to-military relationship, including North Korea nuclear and missile issues and counterterrorism. Other issues were also discussed such as U.S. – China strategic relations and Chinese perspectives on global governance.
