The Fifth Forum on China-U.S. Relations, organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the Carter Center, and co-sponsored by Shanghai Institute for International Studies was held in Suzhou on November 15, 2016. CUSEF. Initiated by CPAFFC and Carter Center in 2012, the Forum has been successfully held for four years in a row, bringing together representatives of both countries with high reputations from various sectors and helped enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries and their people.

The Fifth Forum was the first gathering of Chinese and American intellectuals on China-U.S. Relations since the conclusion of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. More than 20 scholars from universities and think tanks in both countries carried out extensive conversations on China Dream, China-U.S. Security Relation, and the U.S. presidential election. Mr. Zhang Heqiang, Director General of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs of CPAFFC, Ambassador Mary Peters, CEO of the Carter Center, and Mr. William Klein, Minister Counselor from the United States Embassy in Beijing also spoke at the opening.
