  • Taiwan in the Spotlight | A new strife over Taiwan was provoked after the U.S. State Department issued a statement supporting Taiwan's participation at the UN, which goes against the one-China principle. Chinese and U.S. commentaries revisit the UN resolution 2758 and the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA).
  • China-Russia Drills | China and Russia carried out a joint naval patrol around Japan's main island, the first of this kind in the West Pacific. The drills coupled with ongoing concerns over prospects of an attack on Taiwan elicited several worried responses from U.S. military experts concerned about the U.S. Navy and its military preparedness.
  • Diplomacy by Conferences | Both U.S. and China analysts look ahead at upcoming multilateral conferences, including the WTO's 12th Ministerial Conference and the UN COP26 conference on climate change. ASEAN leaders are going to hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping next month after meeting U.S. President Joe Biden at the annual East Asia Summit (EAS) this week.
