  • Chinese authorities acknowledge that competition with the U.S. is inevitable. However, they believe conflict is avoidable. Experts agree it is much better for both countries to work around potential war issues and stabilize competition through senior-level engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation.
  • The G7's Build Back Better World infrastructure initiative (B3W) is seen to many as a means to counter China's Belt and Road Initiative. Questions have emerged over whether the G7 will follow their commitments and act sincerely, or if the B3W is just a part of a larger political anti-China agenda.
  • Organizing U.S. foreign policy around a zero-sum economic and military struggle with China will be politically dangerous and strategically counterproductive.
