  • Biden Waives Solar Panel Tariffs In Asia | U.S. President Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to enhance solar panel production in the U.S. and is exempting tariffs on solar panel production in four Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Observers argue that suspending the tariffs would affect Commerce Department investigations and weaken trade laws that protect American workers.
  • Summit Of The Americas | The United States hosted the ninth Summit of the Americas this week, centered around the theme of “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future.” The U.S. announced its new economic plan for the region, however, several leaders, including Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, did not attend or meet with U.S. President Biden during the Summit. The absence of some Latin American countries, according to critics, indicates that the meeting was more of a “Summit of U.S. Regional Allies” than a “Summit of the Americas.”
  • Australian And Canadian Warplanes In The South China Sea | Canada joined Australia this week in a dispute with China after Beijing warned off their surveillance jets over the South China Sea. China said their presence threatens its security and sovereignty. On the other hand, Australia and Canada have accused China military pilots of conducting dangerous maneuvers in international airspace, which China claims is misinformation. Experts say that as tensions continue between China and the United States and its Allies, issues over the South China Sea could lead to a “broader conflict.”
