U.S. to impose sweeping chip exports control against China

  • The U.S. commerce department is set to impose sweeping restrictions on exports of semiconductors and chipmaking equipment to China, the Financial Times reported. The new rules would essentially bar Chinese companies from obtaining cutting-edge chips from U.S. companies and most of these chips from non-U.S. companies.

U.S. releases ‘AI Bill of Rights’ blueprint

  • The White House released a blueprint for an “AI Bill of Rights” on Tuesday as the rapid development of artificial intelligence poses increasing challenges to American’s daily lives. The blueprint includes five core areas: safe and effective systems, algorithmic discrimination protections, data privacy, notice and explanation, and human alternatives consideration and fallback.

North Korea fires missile over Japan 

  • On Tuesday, North Korea launched a missile over Japan. The firing was the first of this kind since 2017, triggering air operations by flights of U.S., Japan, and South Korea.
