Wang-Blinken Talk over Phone
  • U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday to discuss the Russia-Ukraine tension. Blinken said that “de-escalation and diplomacy” was desirable, and Wang called for calm of all parties. Wang also urged the U.S. to stop “interfering” in the Beijing Winter Olympics and “playing with fire” on the Taiwan issue.
China Wins WTO Case against U.S.
  • The World Trade Organization has allowed China to charge $645 million of compensatory tariffs on U.S. imports as a ruling of China’s 2012 challenge against the anti-subsidy tariffs imposed by the U.S. between 2008 and 2012.
EU, China, and Lithuania
  • In an interview yesterday, the Lithuanian President again urged to “fix” the name of Taipei’s representative. On the other hand, the EU filed a case against China in the WTO regarding China’s blockage of trade with Lithuania during a dispute over the naming issue of the Taipei office.
