SOE Reform Almost Complete

China has almost completed the state-owned-enterprise (SOE) reform, a campaign that aims to transform the SOEs at both central and regional levels into modern business. The achievement was announced on Monday by an official of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC).

China’s Birth Rate Hit Record Low

China recorded its birth rate at 0.752% in 2021, the lowest since 1949. The natural growth rate of its population was at 0.034% in the same year, the lowest since 1960. The data imply a significant challenge of aging for China.

North Korea-China Border Reopened

North Korea and China resumed their trade through railway on Monday, after the two-year closure of borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Products from China count for more than 90 percent of North Korea’s imports.
