In order to better comprehend China’s experience in political development over the past 3 years, the China-US Exchange Foundation has brought together political scientists and experts from China and the US to examine the past obstacles, emerging challenges and future opportunities that the country has faced, and may face in the years to come. In 2010, the group came together for the first Symposium on China’s Political Development, marking the beginning of a year-long study. In 2011, the second round of the Symposium took place in Washington, DC, during which experts and scholars presented the results of their research at a two-day forum hosted by the Brookings Institution. In the fall of 2011, one of the leading participants of the study, Professor Yu Keping, presented the results at Harvard University and at a Washington Post Forum. Follow-up initiatives have been planned for 2012, allowing the participating scholars to deliver their findings to audiences in both China and the US.
