Foundation Chairman Mr. Tung Chee Hwa Discusses Challenges Facing China-U.S. Relations in Washington D.C.
Foundation chairman Mr. Tung Chee Hwa visited Washington D.C. and New York in April to meet with opinion leaders from various sectors in the U.S. to exchange thoughts on enhancing bilateral relations between China and the U.S. During his visit, Mr. Tung gave a keynote speech at the Columbia University, and talks at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, the Brookings Institution and the Asia Society in Washington D.C. He also met with a number of U.S. Senators, Congressmen and think tanks to exchange views and ideas on enhancing China-U.S. relations.
The theme of his speech and talks was about China’s march towards modernity and her relationship with the United States. Participants included representatives from the media, government, and opinion leaders from the non-governmental and academic sectors.
He also responded to questions from the audiences on the issues of Tibet, Taiwan, China-U.S. trade relations, energy and the environment.
