Nature China Concerts

In April 2008, the Foundation, together with the Nature Conservancy and the Committee of 100 of the U.S., sponsored two musical concerts in Beijing and Shanghai to promote the Nature China program, an initiative headed by the Nature Conservancy, to raise awareness of environmental issues and to encourage environmental conservation efforts across China.

The Nature China concerts, led by internationally acclaimed Maestro John Nelson featured performances by international soloists from the Metropolitan Opera, together with the Shanghai Opera Orchestra and Chorus. The concerts were hugely successful in raising awareness of the Nature China initiative and in showcasing the importance of environmental conservation in China as well as the progress the country has made in protecting its environment. The concerts also received significant coverage by such influential Mainland Chinese media outlets as CCTV, Beijing TV, Shanghai OTV, Xinhua News Agency and Sina.com.

As a joint sponsor of the "Natural China"concert at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing, the Foundation contributed to greater global awareness of the environmental activities in China. Although China is widely recognized for economic development, the country's natural resources are less well known. The "Natural China" concert was produced to gain awareness and protection of China's natural beauty and numerous nature reserves through music and photography, and was attended by both local and world figures.
