African American Students’ Visits to China 2016

In 2016, the Foundation, in partnership with Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic, Fudan Unviersity and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), successfully hosted 8 African American student groups of which 6 were sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education while the other 2 were sponsored by Wanxiang Group Corporation.

The delegates visited Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai, and participated in various activities, which included attending lectures on China-U.S. relations, Chinese history, culture and language, participating in various cultural workshops such as Chinese painting and martial arts, and touring historical sites like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Students commented that the trip offered them a new and positive perception on Chinese people, and through seminar and cultural visit, they were able to better understand the current situation of China.

Program Overview African American Students’ visits to China An important and integral part of CUSEF’s long-term initiative is to engage African American community, especially the younger generation, in order to promote mutual understanding. In partnership with Chicago Urban League and several Congressional Black Caucus members, the Foundation invites and sponsors groups of African American high school students to visit China every summer. Students will receive tailor-made lectures, visit attractions, and interact with Chinese students. The funds for these programs are partially donated by Wanxiang Group.
